A New Life for a Service Van

CES Van Donation to HVCVR

Former Wechsler Pool Service truck to become mobile wood shop

From camps to animal shelters, Combined Energy Services and its subsidiaries have donated over 25 serviceable vehicles to local non-profit agencies over the last 8 years. When a vehicle is no longer suitable to us, it can provide years of life and usefulness to someone else.

“We are happy to be able to give back to the communities that support our businesses,” commented Mike Taylor. “We also encourage other local businesses to do the same.”

Typically, we post our vehicles on Facebook. The response is always overwhelming. Recently, we were looking to re-home a Wechsler Pool & Supply service vehicle. The Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration (HVCVR) contacted us. They were looking for just such a vehicle to turn into a mobile wood shop.

The HVCVR works to empower our military men and women to live successful, fulfilling lives. The mission of the Center is to provide support for both our current military personnel while they are home and our veterans by assisting them with their transition back into civilian life. The Center offers programs that serve every aspect of the facilitation back into civilian life for a veteran – such as career/employment transition programs, financial literacy strategies, classes in social reintegration, substance abuse assistance and our integrative mental health programs. All are free to any participant.

The Center encompasses peer-to-peer programs such as our Wooden Boat Workshop, that allow soldiers to work together to build kayaks in the wood shop. These kayaks serve as a tool to heal through focus and creativity in a welcome and open environment. This is where the mobile wood shop would become a tremendous asset.

In thanking CES for its donation, Co-Found & President Kevin Keaveny said, “What Combined Energy Services is doing is special and truly appreciated. Starting a non-profit was a challenge to say the least.” Keaveny continues “We survive on the generosity of others; your kindness will help many veterans and their families in our community.”
